When a routine laparoscopic gallbladder removal turned into a prolonged medical journey, a 50-year-old patient from Kuwait found hope and healing at King’s College Hospital London – Dubai.
In this video, Dr. Rakesh Rai, Consultant Hepatopancreatic biliary (HPB) and Transplant Surgeon, shares the detailed case of a patient who developed a bile duct injury during elective surgery in Kuwait. Despite initial on-table repair and multiple stenting procedures—including advanced stents placed by Dr. Farooq Khan, Consultant Hepatologist, Gastroenterologist & Interventional Endoscopist—the patient continued to suffer from recurrent cholangitis.
With increasing symptoms and complications, the patient returned to King’s for a complex biliary revision surgery. Dr. Rai and the team meticulously planned the procedure using MRCP and interventional imaging. Despite heavy adhesions and prior inflammation, the surgery was a success. The patient recovered quickly, was discharged by day five, and is now on track for a full recovery.
